This Ancient Tonic Botanical Is the Perfect Coffee Alternative
By Alyssa Ford
If you’re anything like me then you take your coffee with a side of guilt. Most people can’t go a day without a latte in their hands, especially us New Yorkers who, if it was possible to have a caffeine IV injected into our bloodstream- we would. The unfortunate truth however, is that usually without the aid of fattening sweeteners and syrups, our coffee and teas don’t taste too good.
Thankfully, adaptogenic botanical brand Moodbeli, offers a healthy and tasty alternative. Moodbeli produces ethically sourced powder blends that are derived from ancient rainforest plants and tonic healing herbs, such as cacao and maca (known for reducing stress). These restorative plants offer the mind and body rich, transformative powers. The blends are all organic, vegan and taste amazing hot or cold. They pair wonderfully swirled in almond milk, tea, or a smoothie. Whether you’re mixing a healthy hot coco or an herbal nighttime elixir, Moodbeli will help you reconnect with yourself.
I tried Moodbeli’s Calming Adaptogen: Ashwagandha Ginger blend, and now it has become a part of my daily routine. This herbal chai-spiced blend’s main ingredient is ashwagandha, a shrub that originates in India. It’s starting to generate a lot of buzz in the world of health trends, appearing in celebrity recipes and on hot spot LA restaurant menus. According to Well + Good’s website, ashwagandha like other herbs in the adaptogen family, “helps protect the body against the effects of toxic stress.” Because of the multi-purpose effects of the entire herb, ashwagandha also helps with chronic fatigue, insomnia, anxiety, and mild obsessive-compulsive disorder, providing support for body and soul.
This calming adaptogen is also made out of ginger, cardamon, and cinnamon pink salt. I paired one teaspoon of the soothing blend with 8 ounces of vanilla almond milk. After two weeks of working the tonic into my schedule, having a cup after my walk home or partnering it with a good book before bed, my mood was elevated. As someone who has been involved in a toxic relationship with insomnia, I was also finding falling asleep to be a much more relaxed task. According to Moodbeli, other benefits of this blend are “memory food, hormone balancer, and immunity booster.”
One of the most important parts of wellness is mindfulness. When engulfed in the hustle and bustle of New York City, it can be hard to remember yourself. Moodbeli is like a comforting hand, guiding you to personal serenity. They state on their website “Although we don't need anything except the mind to be mindful, we've found that creating a tonic herb ritual helps increase the chances that we take a mindful minute (or twenty) to check in with ourselves every day.”
No matter if you choose a golden turmeric latte or a meditation tonic, Moodbeli’s blends are a must add to your self-care routine.
