The Canvas by Querencia Goes Global with New Location in Belgium
The Canvas by Querencia, the Brooklyn-based firm bridging real estate and sustainable fashion is expanding to Europe by opening a new location in Antwerp, Belgium.
This global expansion of The Canvas was made possible by their partnership with Antwerp-based MADE estate, which is an urban trend consultant and real estate company.
Thomas de Mulder of MADE said, “When we met with Devin and Tegan from The Canvas we immediately had a great connection knowing that a collaboration on a certain level would be just logical. Setting up The Canvas in Antwerp and working on this together is a promising adventure we all look forward to. We certainly believe in their approach towards sustainability and fashion and feel a perfect match between the two companies.”
The Canvas will be bringing their successful Swap Shop concept as well as hosting dozens of brands from across the world that address the 17 Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations General Assembly. Speaking of brands that have partnered with The Canvas, Clandestina, Cuba’s first independent fashion label, will be among the brands joining The Canvas Antwerp, extending their partnership from this summer’s installation with Google Cuba at their Williamsburg location.
Their brand new location will bring in international designers as well as focusing also on local Belgian designers that have ethical and sustainable practices in their design and supply chain process.
With five floors, this space will be able to host events, installations with select artists and designers. This will be the third location that The Canvas has opened so far. Their first back in 2018 in the Upper East Side of Manhattan and their second in Williamsburg where they have collaborated with many events with Global Fashion Exchange, Piladora, PAUSE Fashion Hub, KUNSTGEZIND and many more.
The Antwerp-based art collective, KUNSTGEZIND that was displayed at The Canvas Williamsburg location this past February will serve as The Canvas’ Strategic Partner for Cultural Affairs.
Stay on the lookout for more details on the official opening announcement with events coming up this fall.
